Woking tip at Martyrs Lane opens 8am to 4pm weekdays, 9am to 4pm weekends, no booking. Shuts 2pm on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, closed three days.
Woking’s tip, the Community Recycling Centre on Martyrs Lane, is open every day of the year except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. You do not need to book. Weekday hours are 8am to 4pm and weekend hours 9am to 4pm, according to Surrey County Council’s page for the site, which Surrey runs with its contractor SUEZ.

The council’s page does not list separate summer and winter hours for Woking: the same times apply all year. The rules above are standing rules rather than a 2026 announcement, so it is worth a glance at the council page in December in case a one-off change is posted.
Christmas 2026 at the tip
On this year’s calendar, the standing Christmas rules work out as follows:
- Thursday 24 December, Christmas Eve: open, closing at 2pm.
- Friday 25 and Saturday 26 December: closed.
- Sunday 27 and Monday 28 December: open as usual. The 28th is the substitute Boxing Day bank holiday, and the council says “all other bank holidays: usual opening hours apply”. Surrey’s page does not spell out the substitute day, so if you are planning a big run on the 28th, ring the site first.
- Thursday 31 December, New Year’s Eve: open, closing at 2pm.
- Friday 1 January 2027: closed.

Before you go
No booking. Surrey says plainly that you do not need to book a visit to any of its tips. A booking trial at Camberley and Lyne has ended.
Proof of address on your first visit. Every Surrey resident can use the tip. The first time, staff ask for proof of address, such as a driving licence, this year’s council tax bill, a recent utility bill or a Surrey bus pass, and give you a resident sticker for the windscreen (who can use a CRC).
Children and pets. Children up to Year 6 must stay in the car. Older children must be with an adult. Pets stay in the vehicle.
On foot is fine. Woking is one of only four Surrey tips that admit pedestrians. The others are Caterham, Camberley and Warlingham.
No business waste. Woking does not take trade waste.
Vans, pickups and trailers
Woking accepts vans, but only with a Surrey van permit. The permit costs £10 a year, is non-refundable, allows 12 visits in 12 months, and only one is issued per household (van permits). You need one for anything pulling a trailer, pickups, panel vans, camper vans, and people carriers with the seats taken out.
A van cannot bring doors, fitted kitchens and wardrobes, fencing and sheds, insulation, radiators, flooring or loose loads to the tip. Those have to go to a waste transfer station at Epsom, Guildford or Leatherhead, where they are charged as business waste.
DIY and building waste charges
Woking is one of nine Surrey tips that take construction and DIY waste. Some of it is free in any amount if you bring it in a car: doors, fitted kitchen units and worktops, fitted wardrobes, fencing and sheds, insulation, metal bathroom suites, radiators, roofing felt and wooden or vinyl flooring.
Rubble, soil, concrete, plasterboard, tiles, ceramic bathroom suites, tarmac and turf are free only up to a limit, and only once every seven days (construction and DIY waste). The free limit per visit is one of these:
- two bags of up to 50 litres each (no bigger than 50 by 77cm), or
- one large item up to 200 by 75cm, or
- one sheet of plasterboard up to 120 by 140cm, whole or in two halves.

All charges include VAT and are payable by Visa or Mastercard only: no cash, no cheques and no American Express. Bicycle tyres and inner tubes are free. Asbestos is not taken at Woking; it goes to Epsom, Guildford or Shepperton.
The Revive shop
There is a Revive reuse shop on the Woking site selling donated furniture, bikes, tools, crockery and garden furniture. Surrey says the Woking shop opens every day except Wednesday and Thursday, during tip hours. If something you are throwing out still works, tell a member of staff on the way in.
