Woking Online is an independent site for the borough. Independent here means something specific: we are not the council’s newsletter, we do not print publicity as though it were news, and if a claim cannot be traced to a document it does not go up.

The area

Woking borough is compact and easy to underestimate. It holds the town itself plus Horsell, Knaphill, Brookwood, St Johns, Goldsworth Park, Hook Heath, Mayford, Old Woking, Maybury, Sheerwater, Woodham, Pyrford, Byfleet and West Byfleet. Different places with different worries, one council between them.

How the reporting is done

The news here is drawn from the borough planning register and the committee papers behind it, from the open crime data at police.uk, from food hygiene inspection results, from official notices in The Gazette, and from Surrey County Council on anything to do with the highway. Software watches those feeds and helps us turn routine records around quickly, which is how a small operation keeps up, but the substance always comes from the named source and the link is there in the piece. The practical pages are rechecked against the council’s published figures and show the date we last did it.

Corrections and tips

Email hello@wokingonline.co.uk if we have got something wrong, or if something is happening that we should be looking at. We read everything, we keep tips confidential, and corrections are made quickly and noted on the page.
