The 28-storey Crown Place scheme on Chertsey Road wants its community floors changed, a Brookwood office could become 14 homes, and 31 more Woking applications.
The developer of the Crown Place tower on Chertsey Road wants to change the community space it promised. Most of it would go. The ground floor would become flexible commercial space, and the first floor would become amenity space for residents.
It leads 31 applications validated by Woking Borough Council between 21 September and 6 October that we have not reported before. Below are the ones that matter most, then the full list. Comment deadlines are from the council’s planning register.
The ones to know about
Crown Place, Chertsey Road (the former Big Apple site). The scheme was refused by the council in March 2020 and allowed on appeal. It is a building of 5 to 28 storeys with up to 366 homes, shops and “community uses” on the ground and first floors (PLAN/2019/1141 on PlanIt). Two non-material amendments were validated on 21 September:
- AMEND/2026/0024: the ground-floor community space becomes flexible Class E use, which covers shops, cafes, offices and similar. The first-floor community space and its terrace become amenity space for residents.
- AMEND/2026/0025: changes to the elevations, materials, windows, substation, rooftop, drainage and internal layouts, and to Condition 33 on BREEAM environmental standards.
Non-material amendments have no neighbour consultation period. The council’s target date for both is 19 October. The scheme is moving: the council approved its contaminated land conditions on 29 September.
Red House, Cemetery Pales, Brookwood. A prior approval request to turn commercial space into 14 homes under permitted development rights (PLAN/2026/0687). In a prior approval the council can only judge a fixed list of matters, such as transport, flooding, noise and light, not the principle. Comments by 30 October.
Wheatsheaf Cottage, 40 Chobham Road. An existing six-person house in multiple occupation would become a nine-person HMO, with a single-storey side extension replacing the garage and workshop (PLAN/2026/0643). Comments by 21 October.
Goldsworth Health Centre, Goldsworth Park Centre. A certificate to use admin and storage rooms as seven consulting rooms and open from 8am to 6.30pm, six days a week (PLAN/2026/0671). A certificate only tests whether the change is lawful, so there is no comment period. Target date 24 November.
9 Creswell Corner, Anchor Hill, Knaphill. The ground floor would change from a funeral director’s to a tattoo parlour (PLAN/2026/0662). Comments by 23 October.
Unit 5, Abbot Close, Byfleet. A new single-storey car repair and MOT building, up to 7.8 metres high, replacing the existing one. The application is part retrospective (PLAN/2026/0568). Comments by 22 October.
Elm Nursery, Sutton Green Road. A certificate that the site’s existing use as a farm shop, garden centre, cafe, event space, offices and children’s farm is lawful (PLAN/2026/0657).
