Things to do in Woking, 25 to 27 September: Mizens Railway's season finale with cream teas, Curious Incident's last three shows from £17, and a free Lightbox tour.
This Sunday is the last chance of the year to ride the Mizens Railway in Knaphill before it closes for winter. It is also the final weekend for The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time at Woking Theatre. Every listing below comes from the venue’s own website, checked on Thursday 24 September.
Sunday: Mizens Railway season finale, Knaphill
The Woking Miniature Railway Society’s public season ends on Sunday 27 September, 2pm to 5pm. The day doubles as a charity cream tea fundraiser (calendar).
Fares are unchanged from 2025 (fares):

- Where: Barrs Lane, Knaphill, GU21 2JW. There is no through road from the Woking end of Littlewick Road (find us).
- Tickets: from the on-site ticket office only, by card or cash.
- Babies: children under 12 months cannot ride, for insurance reasons, but are welcome to visit.
- Buses: Stagecoach 34, 35 and 91 run to Knaphill.
After Sunday the railway runs only pre-booked events: Winter Lights on 21 and 22 November, and Santa Specials on 6, 13 and 20 December.
Friday and Saturday: Curious Incident’s last three shows
The touring production of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time ends its Woking run on Saturday (Woking Theatre). Performances left:
- Friday 25 September, 7.30pm
- Saturday 26 September, 2.30pm and 7.30pm
Tickets for all three start at £17 plus a 68p fee, according to the booking page on Thursday. Ricky Gervais follows on Monday and Tuesday, and both nights are listed as sold out (what’s on).
All weekend: the Lightbox
The Lightbox on Chobham Road is open Friday and Saturday 10am to 5pm and Sunday 10am to 4pm. The upper galleries open 30 minutes later (visit). The ground floor, cafe and shop are free. A Day Pass for the upper floors costs £14.50, and under-18s go free.
- Friday gallery tour: the Head of Exhibitions, Peter Hall, leads a 30 to 45 minute tour of Philip Colbert’s The Lost Gardens of Lobsteropolis. The tour page says it starts “from 1pm”, while the what’s-on listing shows 12pm, so check at reception. No booking is needed, and it is included in the Day Pass (gallery tours).
- Studio Sundays: a drop-in family drawing session in the Education Studio, 10.30am to 4pm, with materials provided (Studio Sundays).
- Last two weekends for Animal Encounters: works from The Ingram Collection, including Elisabeth Frink and John Craxton, close on 4 October (Animal Encounters).
Woking Market, Market Walk
The covered market off Jubilee Square has 15 permanent kiosks. It opens Friday 9.30am to 6pm, Saturday 9am to 6pm and Sunday 11am to 5pm (Woking Borough Council).
Football: the Cards are away
Woking play at Carlisle United on Saturday, kick-off 3pm, their longest away trip of the season. Advance tickets range from free for under-7s to £20 for adults, and they cost a little more on the day (Woking FC).
Book now for next weekend
The Brookwood Cemetery Society’s next guided walks are on Sunday 4 October at 1pm. Three are listed: an artists walk, the St Albans plot and plots 24 and 25. Booking is essential. What it means for you
- With young children: the Mizens is the cheapest outing on this list, from £2.50 a ride, and Studio Sundays is free for under-18s.
- Theatre: Friday and Saturday are your last chance for Curious Incident in Woking.
- Planning ahead: Mizens’ Winter Lights and Santa trains must be booked in advance.
