The Seymours Woking Car Show returns to the town centre on Sunday 20 September, 11am to 4pm, free to attend. Owners have until 31 August to register a vehicle.

The Woking Car Show returns to the town centre on Sunday 20 September, from 11am to 4pm, and it is free to attend. Woking Borough Council confirmed the date on 20 August.

If you want to put a vehicle in it rather than just look at one, the deadline is sooner. Registration closes on Monday 31 August, and the council says spaces are limited.

This is the fourth Woking Car Show and the third that estate agent Seymours has sponsored. The council manages the event; Seymours Woking, McLaren Automotive and Hilton Woking fund it.

What is on

The council’s event page lists:

  • more than 120 locally owned classic cars and motorcycles across the pedestrianised town centre
  • vehicles from film and television, including Bumblebee and the Ghostbusters car
  • displays from McLaren Automotive of its performance road cars
  • live acoustic music from local choirs and buskers
  • Dream Rides run by the Sporting Bears Motor Club, raising money for Home-Start Runnymede and Woking, leaving from the Town Gates area

The display runs from Victoria Square, down Commercial Way and into Jubilee Square.

Organiser Terry Fox, from Horsell, said: “This is our fourth event, and the pressure is on to top the success of previous years, but we are up for a challenge and promise to deliver a thrilling day with something for everyone.” His own 1950 Chevrolet pick-up will be among the vehicles on show.

Getting there and parking

Woking’s train and bus stations are both in the town centre, less than a minute’s walk from the event.

For drivers, the council says there are more than 3,500 spaces across the town centre’s main car parks, and that Victoria Place is £4 for the day on 20 September, from 6am to 6pm. Our parking in Woking page covers the usual tariffs and the other town centre car parks.

What it means for you

If you own a classic, rare or unusual vehicle, it costs nothing to enter, but you have until 31 August. The council selects entries to build a varied display, so registering is not a guarantee of a space. Applications go through the council’s registration form.

If you are visiting, expect the pedestrianised streets to be busy and take the £4 Victoria Place rate into account before driving in. On the day, the event control point is on Commercial Way, or you can call the event team on 07807 474 735.

If you run a town centre business, the council and its sponsors are pitching this at footfall. Deputy Leader and Portfolio Holder for Finance and the Economy Cllr Dale Roberts said the show “brings families together to enjoy a great afternoon out, and it supports local businesses”.

One thing to note if you bank on that street: Halifax is closing its branch at 22-24 Commercial Way three days later, on 23 September.
